Founded on the legacy of late Quazi Azher Ali and the architectural philosophy of Muzharul Islam, the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University views design as a profound act of service to society. Our program is anchored in the ethos of being “Bengali first, then global,” nurturing a new generation of socially conscious professionals who bridge traditional heritage with modern technological innovation. By emphasizing a “learning through making” approach within our rigorous five-year B.Arch curriculum comprising 185 credits across ten semesters, we ensure that world-class architectural education remains accessible to talented individuals from all economic backgrounds. Under the guidance of eminent mentors like Prof. Shamsul Wares, Prof. Nurur Rahman Khan, and Ar. Iqbal Habib, students learn to harmonize intuition with environmental reason to shape sustainable, inclusive, and humane environments. Established in 2006 and UGC-approved in 2010, the department reached a landmark milestone in November 2023 by earning accreditation from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), cementing its commitment to the highest professional standards and academic excellence.
