🏂 Our Pride Students

Five BU students who have gone on to represent Bangladesh at the highest level of cricket, making us extraordinarily proud.

Najmul Hossain Shanto Dept. of BBA
Najmul Hossain Shanto
Bangladesh Cricket Captain • Batsman
He made his debut in 2017 and after more than five years established himself as Bangladesh's captain in all three formats. Shanto turned 2023 into a bumper year, scoring 1,650 international runs at an average of 42.30 — the top run-scorer in every format. The first Bangladesh batter to exceed 500 runs in a BPL season, he also hit twin Test hundreds against Afghanistan and a century against New Zealand.
Nahid Rana Dept. of BBA
Nahid Rana
Bangladesh Test Cricketer • Fast Bowler
Nahid Rana's Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2024 set pulses racing across Bangladesh. The 21-year-old regularly bowled in excess of 140 km/h, taking three wickets on his very first day as a Test cricketer. He claimed 41 wickets in the 2022-23 domestic season — only his second in competitive cricket — before earning his call-up.
Tanvir Islam Dept. of Sociology
Tanvir Islam
Bangladesh T20I & ODI Cricketer • Spin Bowler
A professional slow left-arm orthodox bowler born on 25 October 1996 in Wazirpur, Barisal. Tanvir made his T20I debut against England in March 2023 and his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2025. Career highlights include a five-wicket haul in ODIs, establishing him as one of Bangladesh's most promising spin bowlers in limited-overs cricket.
Abdul Gaffar Saqlain Dept. of BBA
Abdul Gaffar Saqlain
Bangladesh Cricket Squad • Fast-Bowling All-Rounder
Born on 14 February 1998 in Saidpur, Nilphamari. Saqlain impressed in the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars with Bangladesh A, helping the team reach the final. He was picked by Rajshahi Warriors for BPL 2025-26 and earned a maiden call-up to the national squad for the T20I series against New Zealand in 2026.
Pritom Kumar Dept. of BBA
Pritom Kumar
Domestic Cricketer • Wicketkeeper-Batsman
Born on 21 November 2001 in Joypurhat. Pritom made his List A debut in 2020 and first-class debut in 2021.
