“BANGLADESH UNIVERSITY PHARMACY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (BUPAA) HOSTS STRATEGIC CAREER SEMINAR AND FORMALLY INAUGURATES NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (2025–2028)”
Bangladesh University Pharmacy Alumni Association (BUPAA) successfully organized a comprehensive full-day academic and professional program on Friday, December 12, 2025, comprising a strategic career development seminar followed by the formal inauguration of the New Executive Committee of BUPAA for the tenure 2025–2028. The program was facilitated by the Department of Pharmacy, Bangladesh University and held at the Auditorium Hall, Bangladesh University, 5/B Beribandh Main Road, Adabor, Mohammadpur, Dhaka-1207. The event marked a significant milestone in strengthening alumni engagement, Industry-Academia collaboration and structured career guidance for pharmacy graduates.
The first session of the program featured a high-impact seminar titled “Navigating Pharmacy Career Opportunities”, designed to equip pharmacy students and early-career professionals with a clear, future-oriented professional roadmap. The session focused on career planning, regulatory frameworks, professional ethics, global industry expectations and emerging opportunities within the pharmaceutical sector.
The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Professor Abul Kalam Azad, Head of the Department of Pharmacy of Bangladesh University, who emphasized the expanding role of pharmacists in ensuring public health, regulatory compliance and sustainable healthcare delivery in a rapidly evolving global pharmaceutical landscape.
The seminar was enriched by expert deliberations from a distinguished panel of speakers, Dr. Md. Aktar Hossain, Director, Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), Muhammad Mahbubul Haque, Secretary, Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh, Hishab Uddin Ahmed, General Manager (Plant), Opsonin Pharma Limited, Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Rahman, Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacology, University of Dhaka and Advisor, Department of Pharmacy, Bangladesh University and Asif Hasan, Deputy Director, Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh. The speakers shared strategic insights on regulatory compliance, ethical practice, workforce readiness and the competencies required to succeed in both domestic and international pharmaceutical environments. Their contributions provided students with a realistic and forward-looking understanding of professional expectations and industry dynamics.
Md. Zakaria Faruki, Head of Quality Assurance, Silva Pharmaceuticals Limited, 1st Batch Alumnus, former President of BUPAA and advisor of the new executive committee of BUPAA was the keynote presenter of the seminar. His session outlined a structured professional roadmap for future pharmacists, highlighting diverse career pathways, emerging industry challenges, skill-gap mitigation strategies and the critical importance of developing both technical expertise and soft skills to remain competitive in the global pharmaceutical industry.
A video message from the United States was also delivered by Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Jha, Principal Scientist at Sanofi (USA) a 2nd Batch Alumnus of Department of Pharmacy of Bangladesh University highlighting the prospects of pharmacy career in abroad.
In the second session the New Executive Committee of Bangladesh University Pharmacy Alumni Association (BUPAA) for the tenure of 2025–2028 was formally declared and introduced to the audience. Md. Asraful Islam Sumon (7th Batch) was elected as the President of new BUPAA committee and Md. Kamruzzaman Khokon (15th Batch) was elected as the General Secretary of BUPAA. The Department of Pharmacy welcomed and congratulated the new committee with BUPAA’s strong commitment to the academic and professional development of the department. The former President and General Secretary of BUPAA also spoke on the occasion. Khandoker Md. Rezwan Kabir, Group Product Manager (Marketing), Unimed Unihealth Pharmaceuticals Limited., an alumnus of 14th Batch anchored the entire program. The introductory session of the members of the new executive committee of BUPAA was presided over by Professor Abul Kalam Azad the Honourable Head of the Department of Pharmacy of Bangladesh University and the advisor of BUPAA as well. The event strongly reinforced the importance of structured career guidance, Industry–Academia collaboration and Alumni Mentorship in preparing pharmacy graduates to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and competitive pharmaceutical landscape.
The event came to an end with the deep appreciation by the participants, distinguished guests and last but not the least the current students of the Department of Pharmacy of Bangladesh University.
