Bangladesh University Successfully Concludes Public Awareness Program on Lung Cancer

The Department of Pharmacy at Bangladesh University has completed an extensive Public Awareness Program on Lung Cancer titled “Lung Talks:Awarness Begins With You” on 30th November, 2025 to achieve its objectives in the dissemination of knowledge on its prevention, early diagnosis, and current therapeutic strategies for one of the most critical health concerns around the world.
It featured a very informative keynote address by Professor Dr. Swapan Kumar Bandyopadhyaa, former director, NICRH and former head, Department of Radiotherapy, SSMCMH discussing the global and national burden of lung cancer, recent improvements in treatment, and the importance of changing practices leading to healthier lifestyles as a means of reducing risk.
The event was further distinguished by the presence of Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University; Brig. Gen. Md. Mahbubul Haque (Retd.), Registrar,
Professor Dr. Tajul Islam and Professor Humayun Kabir, Deans of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and the Faculty of Arts, Social Science and Law respectively, Heads of the Departments of BBA and Sociology, and other senior university officials.
The Vice Chancellor, during his address, mentioned that the university was committed to raising awareness about public health through academic engagements. He emphasized that to address major health issues, such as lung cancer, interdisciplinary collaborations were of paramount importance and lauded the proactive initiative taken by the Department of Pharmacy in organizing the program.
The Registrar, also spoke on this occasion and emphasized the importance of awareness programs. He extended gratitude to all contributors for making the event impactful and meaningful.
The program started with an opening remark from the Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Professor Abul Kalam Azad who expressed the commitment of the department to enhance public health education, research, and community-oriented outreach.
The program was scientifically supported by Jenphar Bangladesh-one of the prominent pharmaceutical manufacturers dedicated to research and innovation. On behalf of Jenphar Bangladesh, Ms. Tasnuva Tanzeen Anannya, Portfolio Manager of SPD and a proud graduate of the Bangladesh University Department of Pharmacy led the Vote of Thanks. She extended appreciation to all distinguished guests, partners, and participants and went on to reiterate that industry–academia collaboration will remain vital to developing better public health outcomes.
The Department of Pharmacy is very much grateful to the Chairman of Jenphar Bangladesh, the legendary pharmacist and industrialist, Mr. Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, all the participants, faculty members and students whose cooperation made this meaningful program successful.
